I have been given a laptop with the following characteristics:
- Jun 15, 2016 Get Windows XP Professional 64 Bit ISO Free Download through our direct link available for the users of the Softlay.net. Amazingly, even after 13 long years, this OS hasn’t let down its users. It includes original SP1 & SP2 in official ISO download.
- Jun 18, 2015 Windows XP SP3 ISO Full Version Download Overview. Windows XP Home and Professional editions were major releases at the year of 2001 that defined the Microsoft’s way of welcoming the 21st Century. Windows XP is still a great operating system to work on.
- The computer is a 2nd hand Compaqu Presario and I have deleted all games that the previous owner had loaded, but perhaps there are settings still there that are causing this problem, even though I have restarted it with its original factory settings, redownloaded SP2 and Microsoft office etc.
- Jul 17, 2015 Windows XP Service Pack 3 includes all the previously released updates for the operating system. This update includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly alter the users experience with the operating system.
- Windows XP Proffesional SP3
- No CD-ROM
- a lot of viruses
I am not very familiar with the XP stuff but I need to install on it fresh windows copy and have the following questions:
- From where can I download origianl Windows Professional XP with SP3 (I have managed to find only some links that I think refert to the SP3 itsels - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25129 not the windows
- The user has bought the windows, so can I use the CD Key that I get on 'My computuer -> properties -> registered to' in order to activate the new copy.

Your issue is not that you can't find the image to download.. your issue is assuming that you should be able to download it, and that it should be available for download.

Did Microsoft allow DigitalRiver.com to host the ISO files for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 ISOs? Yes. Were they freely available for everyone to download? No. Was it was possible to get hold of a link and download one of these ISOs? Yes. Are all these links still available on the internet somewhere? No.
Microsoft did want to allow some people to be able to download an ISO of their version of Windows, but Microsoft also believes they should be the ones to decide who should, and should not be downloading their OS. I'm not talking about the broad sense of the decision.. I mean Microsoft wanted to be very specific about who they gave permission to/the ability to.
Since you are talking about using the key on the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop, you are talking about an OEM installation (as opposed to a Retail installation.. it makes a difference). You won't be able to use a Windows XP Pro Retail ISO with that product key. So, although I won't violate any laws with links, I can tell you that you can take your chances on the bittorrent circuits, and search for a Windows XP Pro OEM ISO. You don't want one that is pre-activated, or comes with a crack or a hack. You just want an untouched ISO. You might get lucky.
You can also contact the manufacturer of the laptop (Via their Support web site) and request to purchase the recovery media for that model laptop. Purchase? REALLY? OMG, you just want the OS! Yes.. I know this. And, you won't be spending $100 or $200 by going to the manufacturer. You'll spend between $10 and $40 for their recovery discs, which will include the original OS that was shipped with the laptop.. providing they still have them. Remember, we are talking about Windows XP here. The OS that was replaced by Vista.. that was replaced by Windows 7.. that was replaced by Windows 8.
As a last resort, you could contact Microsoft directly.. but the chances are great they are going to tell you that they cannot and/or will not assist you.. and they will just attempt to sell you a copy of Windows 8.

Did XP Pro SP3 (or SP-any) come on that laptop? Sticker will say. If it does, it means OEM install. As such, the key you're seeing is a broad key that will not work for a re-install.

Most manufacturers have a reinstall partition, bootable by a key-sequence at the right time during boot. If that got blown-away (possibly by you prior to posting here),
Find an OEM image for your manufacturer. Again, if you're posting here, you're not Googling enough, or too antsy about getting tools where you need to.
Buy the image/CD from the manufacturer for that model. Often it's not more than $30. And the end-user will be happy having that physically in their storage.

-You can activate a corresponding retail version of Windows with your OEM activation key (it just has to be the corresponding version of Windows). However, it would be clever to visit the manufacturer's site and see if there are any recovery disk images available for your specific laptop model. If you decide to use a retail version of Windows, it is recommended that you download all the necessary drivers for your laptop and copy them on a USB stick or burn them on a CD so that you can get online etc. Sometimes people forget to download all the appropriate drivers for their Ethernet card, and they cannot get online after installing Windows.

-In that case, you should use the images that are hosted by Digital River (or purchase one of MS's license agreements and, thus, gain access to Microsoft's Volume Licensing Service Center where you'll probably get to download the image files that you are entitled to).
'Find an OEM image for your manufacturer.'
-Many OEM images are hosted by Digital River. You just have to have a lot of patience to find them for your specific laptop model.

I thought I had resolved this a few weeks ago, but obviously not..
Automatic updates keep advising me that SP3 is available. It downloads and installs just fine, but on restarting the computer, the following message appears;
We apologise for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent setting that works.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Last Known Good Configuration does the same. Did not try Safe Mode with Networking or Command Prompt as I have no idea where that would take me.

I just go into Safe Mode and restart from an earlier Set Point. I have tried Mr Fixit and all the other suggested links, but cannot resolve this issue.
